BOTH Jeff Read and Millie Jones enjoyed comfortable winning margins in their respective Lukie Cup competitions played at Brean Golf Club on Sunday morning.
In the men’s event Read was the only player to score over 40 points and his excellent return of 43 led the rest of the field by five points.
His score saw him secure the silverware for a second time, having also tasted success back in 2014.
For Jones the Salver she received was a much more familiar sight as her victory completed a hat-trick of wins in the last three stagings of the Ladies event.
Read was the winner in Division Two with Seniors Captain-elect John Cranley taking second with a score of 38 points. Tony Spencer placed third on 36.
Division Three success was claimed by Martyn Brown with a 37 point haul. He was one clear of Dave Jolly who posted 36 with Millie’s younger brother Zak taking third with 35.
Club captain Dave Morgan was declared the victor of the top flight on 36 points but only after a three-way countback. He defeated both Leighton Jenkins and Dan Broom on the back nine to win the Divisional top prize.
In the Ladies event another countback was needed to decide the second and third places behind Jones with Gail Mason holding the slight advantage over Eileen Parnell for the silver position.
Captain-elect duo Pete Barton and Bev Cranley arranged the prize table to ensure everyone who played won a prize of some description.
The December Stableford was played in some breezy conditions on Saturday. It wasn’t quite up to the ferocity of Storm Arwen of seven days earlier but it was still tricky enough to see only one player beating the par of 36 points.
Simon Baunton was the owner of that sub par round with his 38 point return bringing him Division Two success. Three points was his eventual winning margin over Tony Richards with Andrew Pound two points further back in third.
Division One saw the closest finish of the day with Barry Fellows’ score of 33 good enough to secure him victory. He was one ahead of Chris Fairchild and Dan Broom was third on 31.
In Division Three points were very hard to come by and 30 points was the winning number for John Rabbetts. He won by three from Jordan Tucker and Les Byrne with Tucker edging ahead on a countback for second.
November came to a damp, drizzly end as the Seniors Eclectic event reached its conclusion. The fourth and final round was won by Chris Stephens with the only sub-par return of the day.
His nett 66 also contained the only two of the competition to boost his winnings further. Runner-up was Mike Allen with a nett 69 ahead of Ian Rogers in third on 70.
When the scores were collated into the Eclectic chart it was Vincent Ford who led the way. His nett 53 saw him crowned the Eclectic Shield champion for 2021.
Ian Rogers was the runner-up on countback ahead of Roger Phillips in third after both scored nett 56s over the series.
The final Seniors Stableford of 2021 was played on a chilly but thankfully frost free Thursday morning. In terms of the scoring it seemed the best cards were saved to last with the players coming from the final group on the course.
Brian Reeves survived a mid back-nine blip to record a very impressive 42 points to take the win by two points from his playing partner Vincent Ford. Long time leader Kevin Davies had to settle for third after looking good for the win for much of the morning.
