TONY Richards claimed the June Medal at Brean Golf Club with a round of nett 65.
This gave him the top spot in the second division as he enjoyed a two stroke cushion ahead of Ian Adams and Ian Rogers. Adams took second on the back nine countback.
The Third Division saw Steve Martin in charge after his nett 66 was a single stroke ahead of another duo who scored nett 67s. Mark Ashley had the better back nine score of these to edge ahead of Dave Bradley for the runners up prize.
Dan Broom won the top flight, also shooting a nett 67. He completed a June Medal and Stableford double and also had the lowest gross score of the day with a 72 as he led home Captain-elect Barry Fellows by one. Matt Haskins was third on 71.
The Triangular match made a return to the Brean golfing calendar on Saturday after being one of the many events to fall by the wayside in the COVID decimated fixtures of 2020.
Dave Morgan’s Men did battle with Linda Edmondson’s Ladies and Mike Short’s Seniors team with the scoring format being stableford and the best six scores from each team counting towards the overall average.
Each team played from a different set of tees and it was the Seniors who used the Yellow tees who ended victorious. Their average of just under 40 was aided by four of their players surpassing the 40 point mark led by Ian Adams on 44.
Second place were the Ladies with Lyn Bird returning 42 points within their average of 37.33 and the Men ended in third with a 35 point average. Adam Cox and Chris Fairchild were their leading scorers with 39 apiece.
Almost three quarters of the field either matched or bettered their handicaps in the latest Super Series round also played on Saturday.
In the Bogey event the winning score was an very impressive +8 which belonged to Derrick Dunning. However Dunning only enjoyed a narrow winning margin as two players carded +7. A countback was required to decide the runner up and the verdict went to Dave Bradley with the better back nine over Nigel Ellis.
Barrie Tucker and Leighton Jenkins both returned +5 with Tucker claiming fourth spot after another countback was completed.
The Seniors Texas Scramble was claimed by the trio of Ron Edmondson, Trevor Pitt and Chris Stephens with an excellent score of 55.5. They held just over a stroke winning advantage over the runners up consisting of Graham Exton, Vincent Ford and Jeff Milton with the Mats Mattsson/ Tony Higgins/ Tim Amy team taking third another 0.2 further back.
Lyn Bird and Eileen Parnell are certainly forming a formidable partnership in Ladies Knockout Matchplay games this year. After the duo made excellent progress in the Daily Mail Foursomes recently they continued happily on their winning way by defeating a Burnham & Berrow pairing in the Somerset Ladies County Centenary plate.
They enjoyed a comfortable 6&5 win at the neutral venue of Worlebury over their near neighbours whom they also beat in the aforementioned Daily Mail event earlier in the year. They now face Clevedon in the next round which will be played at Long Sutton on a date yet to be arranged.
