GOLF: Texas Scramble for new members at Enmore Park

ENMORE Park hosted a nine hole Texas Scramble competition for new members which attracted two women’s and four men’s teams.

The focus was not only on the golf but also, how new members can make the most of their club membership.

The top three teams were all within one shot of each but the eventual winners were Cecil Blumgart, Danny Foy, Mike Organ and Chris Close who won by half a shot with a net score of 28.65.


Meanwhile the the Ladies Section also played an 18 hole Texas Scramble last week which attracted 48 entries.

The winners were Beverley Broad, Jane Driver, and Henriette Hayden with 66 ahead of Irene Dickinson, Rachel Johnson and Heather Neale with 68.

Two teams returned with 70 and after countback it was Linda Anniss, Carol Robinson and Janet Waplington who edged ahead of Jennifer Hawkins, Fiona Ryan and Charlotte Warren.

The Ladies’ 9 Hole Texas Scramble’ which attracted 15 entries’ was won by Eileen Binding, Anita Leng and Diana Webster but only after countback put them ahead of Mary Close, Claire Down and Wendy Walker. Both teams carded 37.

Third place went to Rosemary Harris, Christine Pashley and Mavis Tudor on countback from Miriam Batchelor, Pat Chapman and Sally Hale.


The Wixon Tankard Seniors Section Qualifying Stableford, competed for by 75 members who donated £1 of their entry fee to the Royal British Legion Charity, was won by 12 handicapper Kevin Lewis.

He scored 42 points to finish ahead of Mike Sullivan (12) who was second with 38 after a countback put him ahead of David Murray-Smith (16).

A total of nine twos were scored, of which Kevin Lewis claimed a brace.
