GOLF: Payne and Miller trot to victory at Enmore Park

JOHN Payne, who plays off a handicap of 14, and Melanie Miller (18), won Sunday’s Mixed Turkey Trot competition at Enmore Park.

However it needed a countback to leave them in front of Steven (20) and Joy MaConnachie (16) who returned with the same score.

Third place was claimed by another husband and wife team, David (13) and Irene Dickinson (21), with 40 points.

Thursday’s Pro Shop Stableford saw a two-way tie at the head of the field on 38 points. Following countback it was Luke Caswell (12) who was the winner just ahead of Paul White (21) while Joe Cornish (17) was third with 35.

Saturday’s Turkey Trot was won by Martin Innalls and Paul Windsor with 42. George Alexiou and David Robbins edged into second place on countback from Jack and Robert Wright after both returned with 40.

Kath Carr celebrates

On Wednesday the Ladies’ Section celebrated Kath Carr’s 90th birthday by presenting her with a bouquet of flowers, a voucher and card.

Kath has been a member at Enmore since she moved to the area in 1961 when the course was just nine holes and the clubhouse a small hut.

Her husband Charlie was a golfer and she took up the game herself in 1971 and has been playing ever since.

She remains a very active member, regularly playing on a Wednesday with the Ladies section.
