FOOTBALL: Bridgwater United hoping for bumper crowds this weekend

BRIDGWATER UNITED have set themselves the challenge of breaking their all-time attendance record this weekend.

The current record was set in February 1997 when 1,112 people watched the match against Taunton Town.

This season Bridgwater United have seen crowds growing steadily, thanks to good results and competitive football, both with the women’s and men’s teams.

For the upcoming weekend’s Festival of Football, Bridgwater have two home games as the men take on Saltash United on Saturday while the women face Crawley Wasps on Sunday.

With two home games in the one weekend, the club is urging locals to get down to Fairfax Park for what should be a great two days of football and family friendly entertainment.

The weekend begins on Saturday morning when Bridgwater United Community Sports Trust hold their weekly football sessions for young boys and girls for up to 7-year- olds.

The match on Saturday will kick off at 3pm but before that, Fast and Furious Football will lead the club’s variety of football themed activities at the ground from 12.30pm when turnstiles will also open.

As well as plenty of activities, the club’s new Robin mascot will be present throughout the weekend for selfies and ‘high fives’.

Sunday’s main event sees Bridgwater United’s women’s take on Crawley Wasps in the FA National League, Premier Division, kick-off 2pm.
