BOWLS: Club holds open weekend to welcome members old and new

BRIDGWATER Bowling Club is hosting a ‘Big Bowls Weekend’ later this month to welcome back old members and encourage new players to take up the game.

The ‘open’ weekend, part of an initiative by Bowls England, is being held on May 30 and 31.

Club spokesperson Justin Hooper said: “Our aim is to introduce the wonderful games of outdoor and indoor bowls to all ages as we emerge out of lockdown.

“Lots of people are hesitant to a normal social life, but the event will be fully Covid-19 compliant and our aim is to help new and old members to get fit.

“We will have skilled club members happy to encourage, guide and assist our visitors throughout each day and the club facilities will also be available.”

The club, situated on Durleigh Road, was formed in 1908 and has distinguished history.

Many local competitions have been won by the club over the years and there are a number of members who play for county teams.

All equipment and guidance over the weekend will be provided for free. The club is mixed and disability friendly.
