UPDATE: Motorist in overturned car on A38 cut free by firefighters

THE driver of a car which overturned on the A38 in North Petherton this morning was taken to hospital after firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to set them free.

The car ended up on its side after colliding with a street light just after 4am.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were mobilised to reports of a car involved in a road traffic collision in the early hours this morning.
“Upon arrival they confirmed that one vehicle was involved, and that this vehicle was on its side with a casualty still within it.

“Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty and left them in the care of the paramedics to be conveyed to hospital.

“Western Power also attended the incident, ensuring that a street light that had been damaged as a result of the collision was made safe.”
