Resurfacing to begin on key Bridgwater route

DRIVERS can expect daytime diversions when repair work is carried out on Westonzoyland Road, Bridgwater, later this month.

Somerset County Council’s Highways team is resurfacing a section of the A372 as it is showing signs of deterioration with cracks on the carriageway.

The work is due to begin on Monday, July 26 and is expected to finish on Friday, August 6. The road will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm on weekdays only.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways said: “This is part of our ongoing programme to look after our roads in the county and ensure they are maintained to a high standard.

“The closure is necessary to ensure the workforce remain safe so they can complete the work as swiftly as possible. Fortunately, the road will be open at peak hours and at the weekend to enable us to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Access to households and businesses in the area will be maintained and we will work closely with those affected by the works.

“Deliveries and access will be accommodated by liaison with on-site operational staff. Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum. Pedestrian access will be maintained.”

During the road closure a suggested diversion route will be clearly signposted on site or can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks.
