A RECRUITMENT fair for staff being made redundant from the Argos distribution centre near Bridgwater has been organised by Sedgemoor District Council.
A spokesperson for the council said: “In April 2021 Argos announced that the company would be closing its centre, located at Junction 24 of the M5.
“There are approximately 500 employees facing redundancy during the first months of 2022, with massive impacts for the workers and their families, as well as affecting Sedgemoor’s local economy.
“Right from day one after the announcement the council’s Skills and Employment staff have been helping to support the management, unions and employees of Argos to try to find employment for the affected staff.
“One of the practical things we have done is to organise and arrange a ‘recruitment fair’ to be held on January 12 between 10am and 6pm at the Argos site.
“Council staff contacted local employers and at least 17 – all with live vacancies and ready to recruit – will be coming along to the fair.”
