POLICE evacuated hundreds of holidaymakers from Pontins at Brean Sands yesterday following a ‘malicious communication’.

People were asked to stay outside the gates of the complex from about 6.30pm while the matter was investigated. Vehicles were also stopped from entering the site.

Police said they had received reports of a ‘malicious communication’ made to the holiday resort and an investigation has now been launched.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said: “An evacuation was ordered as a precautionary measure while enquiries were carried out at the site.

“We would like to reassure people that we do not believe that there is any credible threat to the safety of the public.

“We understand people’s concerns and enquiries are ongoing to identify who sent the communication.”
