A TEN-year-old girl was treated by paramedics after her foot became impaled on a piece of driftwood on Burnham beach yesterday.
Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard received a call at 2.20pm after the nail pierced her shoe.
A passer-by called 999 and asked for an ambulance while the girl was comforted by her mother.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: “When we arrived on scene the distressed young lady was a bit calmer but still in pain.
“As we were assessing the injury the ambulance teams arrived and we happily stepped aside so they could work their magic. In no time at all the nail was removed and she was transferred to the ambulance after a quick inspection by the on-scene paramedic.
