A FIFTH serious fire has hit Somerset in five days – this time at the derelict former NatWest building in the heart of Crewkerne.
Up to 14 fire engines and crew from across Devon and Somerset battled the blaze for most of the afternoon.
Officers have yet to disclose whether they think the fire was arson.
The blaze follows close on the heels of a barn fire in Bell Lane, Cossington yesterday.
Emergency services say that fire was started deliberately – along with the inferno which gutted auto workshops at Bridgwater college on Thursday and a fire at a farm in Creech St Michael in which a barn containing 300 tonnes of hay was destroyed.
The only blaze which is not being treated as arson devastated a farm in Stretcholt near Bridgwater.
