CHEDDAR Gorge was closed to the public for a couple of hours on Easter Sunday after large groups started to gather at the site.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said: “After receiving a number of calls about gatherings in the area, including car meets, a decision was made on the evening of Sunday, April 4 to temporarily shut Cheddar Gorge on the grounds of public safety.
“Officers engaged with people, explained the current Covid restrictions around gatherings and encouraged them to comply.
“The road was closed by the hotel from approximately 6.35pm until the number of people in the area had reduced. It was reopened a couple of hours later.”
The beauty spot has seen a number of instances of Covid restrictions being breached over recent months.
