Emergency services deal with casualties after flat fire

SEVERAL people were treated by ambulance crews after a fire in a first floor flat in Weston-Super-Mare last night.

Crews from Weston and Winscombe attended the incident on Longton Grove Road at around 10.45pm along with the police and the gas officials.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets, one covering jet and one safety jet to extinguish the fire, as well as a thermal image camera to check for hotspots.

“Crews also administered a trauma pack to multiple casualties from the property, before they were handed into the care of ambulance colleagues.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”
