FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a couple who became trapped on a ledge while climbing the face of a former quarry yesterday.
The pair became stuck on a ledge 100ft above ground level at about 4pm while climbing near Old Coach Road in Cross.
A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control received a call from our police colleagues requesting assistance with a couple who had found themselves stuck on a ledge while climbing in an old quarry.
“A fire engine from Cheddar station attended with back-up from the service’s specialist rescue team from Bridgwater.
“The climbers were unharmed and duty of care was left with the police.”
In February, during lockdown, two people were rescued in Cheddar Gorge after getting stuck in the dark, prompting a response from both firefighters and police.
