Drain cover theft ‘incredibly dangerous’ says council

THE theft of a drain cover from a Bridgwater car park has been branded an “incredibly dangerous act of vandalism” by a spokesperson for Sedgemoor District Council.

The cast iron cover – measuring about 50cms by 30cms – was stolen from the Dampiet Street car park overnight on Sunday.

The spokesperson said: “This is a shocking and incredibly dangerous act of vandalism. Clearly it is of a concern because it has created a dangerous trip hazard which could lead to serious hurt or injury.

“A temporary cover is in place until a replacement is found.

“Sedgemoor council car parks are well covered by CCTV and any footage of the perpetrators will be passed to the police.”
