District sees another 182 Covid cases in 24 hours

SEDGEMOOR recorded another 182 cases of Covid-19 in the latest 24 hour reporting period, taking the total since the pandemic began to 8,333.

The district currently has the second highest infection rate in the country according to the most recent seven-day figures – with those under 30 four times more likely to be infected than older people.

Meanwhile there were another 143 cases in Somerset West and Taunton, 110 in South Somerset and 84 in Mendip.

South Somerset also recorded three deaths, according to Public Health England.

Nationwide, a further 111 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday, bringing the UK total to 131,260.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Government data up to August 17 shows that of the 88,401,088 Covid jabs given in the UK, 47,413,242 were first doses, a rise of 43,824 on the previous day.
