Creech St Michael fire now treated as arson

THE fire which destroyed a barn containing 300 tonnes of hay at a farm near Creech St Michael near Taunton on Friday evening is now being treated as suspicious.

The blaze came just a day after the arson attack which caused serious damage to Bridgwater college where the motorsport workshops were gutted.

And the news comes on the same day as a massive fire at a farm in Stretcholt (see main story).

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after investigators for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue decided the cause was suspicious.

No-one was injured in the fire.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Enquiries continue and anyone with information which could help is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5221036886.

“Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never tell the police who you are, just what you know.”
