THE first Covid-19 vaccinations in Somerset were administered at Yeovil District Hospital yesterday (December 9).
Jean Cook, aged 84, was one of the first patients to have the Pfizer vaccine.
She said: “I’m so pleased to be one of the first people in the world to receive this vaccine.
“I hope everyone will take the opportunity to get vaccinated when it is offered to them, so we can start getting back to normal and put this pandemic behind us.”
Yeovil Hospital is currently vaccinating people from the most vulnerable groups.
The Pfizer vaccine was given the green light from regulators last week and Somerset health and care organisations have been working on the logistical challenges of deploying it.
As plans progress across Somerset, the NHS have asked the public not to contact them for a vaccine, they will contact you.
They have also asked people to make sure they attend their vaccination appointment and to continue to follow the guidance in the meantime.
