A GROUP of climate activists claim much of Sedgemoor could be under water within 30 years if global warming continues its upward trend.
The scientists and journalists that make up Climate Central believe large swathes of other parts of Somerset may also be at risk by 2050.
And they have produced a map to show exactly which areas they think are most at risk.
The map, known as the Coastal Risk Screening Tool, is available on the group’s website and its predictions are allegedly based on expected sea level rises over the coming years, along with current annual flood levels across the county.
Climate Central claims that sea levels could rise by as much as 10.8 metres if temperatures were to increase by four degrees from pre-industrial levels.
If the prediction is borne out, it could lead to tens of thousands of people in Somerset being forced to move inland as the water reclaims vast swathes of land across the county.
