LATEST figures issued by NHS England show a four-fold increase in the number of Covid patients being treated in hospital by the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in just four weeks.
The latest data shows that as of last Tuesday (September 7) the trust – which includes Musgrove Park Hospital – was caring for 44 patients who had tested positive for the virus.
This compares with just 11 patients 28 days earlier.
Across England there were 6,244 people in hospital with Covid as of September 7, with 885 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has increased by 23% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 13%.
