Another Covid-related death in Sedgemoor as daily infections surge

SOMERSET has seen another 800 coronavirus cases in a day – while three more people have died within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

Two of the new deaths were reported in Somerset West and Taunton and one in Sedgemoor.

The data was published last night by the UK Health Security Agency – formerly Public Health England.

Positive test results in each area since the pandemic began (new results in brackets):

  • Somerset West and Taunton: 13,489 (+301)
  • South Somerset: 13,570 (+160)
  • Sedgemoor: 12,603 (+152)
  • Mendip: 9,898 (+187)

Deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test:

  • Somerset West and Taunton: 212 (+2)
  • Sedgemoor: 181 (+1)
  • South Somerset: 178 (-)
  • Mendip: 177 (-)

Nationally, a further 148 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 138,527.

The daily updates do not show deaths which necessarily took place in the last 24 hour period – it is simply when the data is recorded.
