Cllr Bill Revans

New Leader Elected

Sir Ed Davey has won the race to become the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

The acting leader will now take over on a permanent basis after beating his competitor, fellow MP Layla Moran.
Sir Ed secured 63.5% of the vote, compared to 36.5% for Ms Moran.

At an event in London, Sir Ed said it was time for the party to “wake up and smell the coffee” after only securing 12% of the vote in the last general election.

Cllr Bill Revans – Bridgwater Liberal Democrat Party said

“Ed is a brilliant campaigner with a huge amount of experience. He worked closely with Paddy Ashdown as his economics advisor when he was party leader and played a crucial role in the low carbon agenda in the coalition.

He has committed the LibDems to a fairer, greener and more caring society. With the LibDems on the rise again the Somerset area will be a key battle ground for removing this cruel, incompetent and arrogant government.”
