Award-winning housing charity adds to their portfolio

ARC, who were recently named Charity of the Year at the Somerset Business Awards, have bought and renovated another two properties in Bridgwater to house 15 homeless people.

That will take to 16 the total number of housing units run by Arc to support the homeless in Taunton and Bridgwater.

The houses act as ‘satellite properties’, where Arc’s support workers provide guidance which includes regular one-to-one meetings.

The project is part of Arc’s partnership with Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) and their rough sleeper initiative.

Arc fought off stiff competition from the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Promise Works to win the business awards, organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce.

A spokesperson said: “The Charity of the Year category required us to demonstrate not just how much money we raised, but how we put that money in good use for our cause in the local area.

“It also recognises the incredible contribution from our volunteers and the significant difference they make to those they work with. This has, of course, been made even more difficult this past year due to Covid-19, but it shows just how hard Arc work in supporting the homeless.

“We have overcome so many obstacles in the past 12 months, the worst of which may have been losing the ability to support many of our clients face-to-face, but through working together and striving for the best care possible, we have still helped so many people.”
