SEDGEMOOR Masquerade Week continues this evening with a ‘Grand Fireworks Display’ at St Matthew’s Field in Bridgwater from 7.30pm.
The event, sponsored by Bridgwater Town Council and supported by Sedgemoor District Council, will mark the 416th anniversary of The Gunpowder Plot.
The build-up to the display will start in the field at 3pm with a handful of fairground rides operating, provided by the world famous Chipperfield family.
Car parking on the field will be available from 6pm at a cost of £5 per car. All proceeds will go towards the official Bridgwater Carnival charity.
A council spokesperson said: “Spectators are encouraged to take a lateral flow test before attending and are asked to stay away if feeling unwell.
“They should also respect the health and concerns of others, wear face masks wherever possible, and stand in less crowded spaces and areas.”
The festivities continue on Saturday with street entertainment in Bridgwater Town Centre from 2.30pm.
At 5.30pm there is a ‘Grand Costume Parade’ followed by a simultaneous squibbing display.
From 7pm onwards people can watch the 2021 ‘virtual carnival’ titled ‘Through the Decades’. The two hour live stream broadcast will feature 100 entries from Bridgwater Carnival processions held over the past 40 years.
