SUE Pomeroy has been elected president of Bridgwater Operatic Society.
She was selected for the role at an virtual general meeting after the society’s former president, Bill Young, died last month.
Sue, who has been at the forefront of amateur theatre in the town for more than 60 years, is a highly respected adjudicator for The National Operatics and Drama Association (NODA).
She has also and has directed, produced, or starred in many of the societies productions over the years as well taking virtual sole responsibility for the handling of the society’s box office.
She has also been the society’s chairman twice.
BOS chairman Mark Peters said: “It is an enormous delight to welcome Sue into the role of President.
“Her knowledge of amateur theatre is second to none and she brings to the post a tremendous wealth of experience, an infectious enthusiasm as well as her drive and passion for the local theatre scene.”
The news comes just months after the society was forced to call off its production of Made in Dagenham due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic
