Get your lanterns ready for Christmas fun in Highbridge

CHRISTMAS is coming to Highbridge next Saturday, November (27) with the annual Christmas lights switch on.

The celebrations begin with the SEED lantern parade starting at Bank Street car park next to the Community Hall at 4pm.

The Rev’d Little and his guitar will be accompanying children from Churchfield School who will then be singing under the portico at the Community Hall at 4.30pm, and finally at 5pm the Mayor, Cllr Mike Facey, will switch on the Highbridge Christmas lights.

Refreshments will be available in the Community Hall.

Lanterns

To join in the lantern parade you can make your very own eco-friendly paper bag lantern to carry and just turn up on the day.

Free lanterns activity packs are now available to collect from Create You on Market Street in Highbridge and several local shops in Burnham-on-Sea including Material Needs, Crafty Comforts, Baby Bee Crafty, Toy Cupboard, Indoor market, GW Hurley and Sassy.

A spokesperson for Burnham and Highbridge Town Council said: “Each lantern pack comes with everything you will need to make the lantern and an LED tealight, even safe for little hands.

“As well as supplying the paper bag lantern packs, Create You have been running free drop-in workshops to make floating lanterns leading up to the events.

“The last walk-in lantern session is taking place in the shop on Sunday (November 21) from 1.30-3.30 pm.

“There is no need to book to do the lantern making sessions, just turn up on the day.”
