LITERATURE Works – the regional literature development agency for the South West – are launching their ‘Annual Fund’ to support projects in 2021.
The organisation aims to open up the flexible literature artform of poetry and story, creative writing and reading as widely as they can to the benefit of all.
And the Annual Fund is just one of the ways they work on this, making small seed-funding grants to community-based projects, which they then mentor and support to develop.
A spokesman said: “Last year, we all had to think creatively about new ways to reach our audiences and access the content we’re passionate about as literature lovers in the South West. Events and opportunities quickly moved online and audiences became virtual.
“During this time, we were pleased to be able to support seven projects from organisations across the region who are supporting grassroots literature activity in their local communities.
“These projects responded to our 2020 theme, reader development, but also demonstrated adaptability and consideration of new ways of working during the pandemic.
“The funding awarded to these projects will mean that audiences right across the region will have access to high quality literature activities locally.
“In 2021, we’re all hoping that in-person events and activities can happen, but for now we need to continue to think creatively to deliver a diverse range of rich literature experiences to communities in the region.
“That’s why this year, while we will continue to welcome all applications, we are particularly interested in projects which consider ‘the outdoors’.
“This could mean that your project focuses on utilising the region’s many outdoor spaces and landscapes in a creative way. You could be focusing on nature writing, or developing an outdoor literature related walk or challenge.
“We are interested in receiving your inventive responses to this theme and we look forward to funding more great projects this year.”
The annual fund is open for applications to round one of funding until June 7. To find out more about the type of work that is funded and how to apply click here: https://literatureworks.org.uk/annual-fund/
